Petra (البتراء) is an amazing, historical place - an ancient city carved into the rock of the mountains. The stunning city was created in 100 BC as the capital of the Nabataeans (Al-Anbaat الأنباط), the Arabs of the time from the region which is now called Southern Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine & North Arabia.
It became internationally known when it was rediscovered in 1812, and is now one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
The buildings are absolutely huge, the facades up to 30 metres wide, and 45 metres high - it's Jordan's top tourist attraction and it's not hard to see why.
