Shop selling Shisha in Cairo, Egypt

A shisha (شيشة) is an ornate water pipe used for smoking fruit-flavoured tobacco. Although Shisha smoking is popular all over the world, it is most widely spread in the Arab World.
The shisha pipe operates by burning the tobacco, which then passes through the vessel, allowing the smoker to inhale the filtered smoke through the mouthpiece.

In the Arab World, you will find 'Shisha cafes' on many streets and although shisha smoking is more popular among men, it is not limited to men and more and more women are using it. Many non-smokers enjoy the smell of shisha, unlike regular cigarettes, and it is pleasant to smell apple tobacco in the air of a Middle Eastern Street.
